Why Do I Do Poetry?

It has been years since I have been writing,

Never stopped to think why I took a liking.

I have been asked a number of times,

How do I make these rhymes?

I don’t know the answer to how,

May be it is a gift that has been endowed.

The impulse to write comes from deep within,

That is how it has always been.

Then the words begin to float in my mind,

I close my eyes and they start forming a line.

The rest is easy because I only have to write,

Being guided by my inner light.

Sometimes there is an overwhelming thought,

It becomes easier when on paper it’s been sought.

When I hold a pen in my hand and respond,

My heart and my mind both are calmed down.

The poem that I write then,

Helps me attain a state of zen.

Sometimes I write because I love to write,

The flow of ink is a soothing sight.

The words begin to form from letters,

And it begins to be a source of pleasure.

It is only when a poem is formed,

That I realize how much it was yearned.

It has been years since I have been writing,

Never stopped to think why I took a liking.

I have been asked a number of times,

Why do I make these rhymes?

Let me answer the question why,

I write so that my soul can be satisfied.
